Canadian-American relations | Mark Carney reshuffles advisory board
(Ottawa) Prime Minister Mark Carney announces the composition of his new advisory committee on economic relations between Canada and the United States, which replaces a similar group established by his predecessor, Justin Trudeau, towards the end of his mandate.

The committee includes several well-known figures in Quebec, including the president of the FTQ, Magali Picard, the analyst on American politics Valérie Beaudoin and the CEO of the Agropur cooperative, Émile Cordeau.
Also present are the president and CEO of the Aluminum Association of Canada, Jean Simard, the former leader of the Conservative Party of Canada Erin O’Toole, the former Conservative minister Lisa Raitt, as well as the former Liberal minister and High Commissioner of Canada to the United Kingdom, Ralph Goodale.
The new committee retains some members of Justin Trudeau’s committee, including former Quebec Prime Minister Jean Charest, Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association president Flavio Volpe, and Unifor president Lana Payne.
A news release from the Prime Minister’s Office says the committee includes leaders from major Canadian industries and people with “extensive experience” in business, investment, trade and labor.
“It’s very useful, I’m very happy with the composition: leaders of unions, companies, experts across Canada,” said Mr. Carney upon his arrival at a cabinet meeting Tuesday morning.
The Minister responsible for Canada-United States Trade, Dominic LeBlanc, will chair the new committee.
Mr. LeBlanc spent much of the past year shuttling between Ottawa and Washington in preparation for the mandatory review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement, scheduled for next June.
The committee will meet for the first time next Monday.
