Aren Pearson, 41, told the High Court in Edinburgh how he was shocked as he watched in horror as Claire Leveque, 24, of Edmonton, killed herself at his mother’s Shetland Islands house on Feb. 11, 2024.

Pearson, also a Canadian, had been living on the island with his mother when Leveque arrived from Canada for a visit.

On the day of her death, Pearson claimed that Leveque had been drinking whisky before the incident. He claimed she was upset when he told her father, Clint, how much she was boozing.

The U.K. Sun reported that the accused killer was causing him problems, and he wanted Leveque to return to her father.

After hearing the conversation, Leveque allegedly struck Pearson in the testicles and grabbed a nearby knife. Pearson said the pretty blond jumped into a hot tub in a shed at his mother’s home.

“She stabbed herself once — nearby her rib and pulled it out,” Pearson testified. “She looked at me. She looked almost surprised that she didn’t feel it. She started to scream. She maybe plunged herself four or five times.”

STRUCK IN TESTICLES

Monday’s proceedings marked the fifth day of testimony in Pearson’s murder trial. Earlier, he testified that he and Leveque arrived in Scotland in October 2023.

Their booze-fueled relationship was tumultuous, argumentative and abusive, Pearson said, adding the abuse went both ways. He admitted things became “too toxic” when booze was involved.

“We were having a nice afternoon, but it turned into a horrible one,” Pearson said of the day Leveque died, adding she had consumed about a third of a litre of booze. “She guzzled a whole bunch of it, and she started abusing me again.”

Pearson testified he told Leveque to go to bed and then contacted her father in Canada about sending her home. She later allegedly called him a “rat.”

And then, he claimed, she began stabbing herself.

“I remember thinking what the f—. I’m afraid I don’t know what happened next,” Pearson testified, adding he couldn’t remember driving his Porsche into the sea. “I can remember tasting the salt water.”

The jury earlier heard evidence that Pearson told a doctor that he had been trying to “get rid” of Leveque.

Pearson testified: “That’s been taken out of context. What I meant by that was sending her back to Canada, not killing her. I did love her. I did. I still do.”

He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
