Football manager Alan Pardew, 64, is handed driving ban after speeding in his £80,000 Porsche

Former Premier League football manager and TV pundit Alan Pardew was today banned from driving for six months after speeding in his £80,000 Porsche Macan.
The 64-year-old apologized and issued a warning to motorists after he was caught speeding four times, three of which exceeded the 20 mph limit.
The TalkSport star requested not to be banned so he could look after his frail 93-year-old mother, but judges said he did not meet the extraordinary hardship threshold to avoid a ban.
Pardew was caught by an automatic speed camera traveling at 26mph in a 20mph zone on The Avenue, the A205, in Clapham, south London, at 12.03am on February 21 this year. The score increased to 12 in the last attack.
Pardew told the Daily Mail: ‘I am truly sorry for being banned from driving. Three of my speeding offenses were for exceeding the 20mph limit, so perhaps this is a warning to everyone not to lose concentration in 30mph zones because it’s so easy to do.’
At the time of the offense, he had nine points for three previous speeding violations on March 20, 2022, May 25, 2022, and May 19, 2023.
The former Crystal Palace boss pleaded guilty to speeding but argued he had to keep his license to care for his 93-year-old mother, who lives in Selsey, near Chichester.

Appearing at Bexley Magistrates’ Court in south-east London today, Pardew said: ‘I am trying to keep her life as normal as possible after losing her husband.
‘He doesn’t want to live with me or my sister, he wants to be at home. He wants to live in the house where he lives with his partner.
‘On your own. We’ve talked about maybe bringing him back to London, but he doesn’t want that.
‘It’s quite emotional, we lost my brother this year too, he’s not in the best of shape mentally. ‘I worry.’
Pardew takes his mother to London to see her children and grandchildren “once or twice a week”, also drives her to medical appointments, and told the court he was worried his mother would be left alone if she lost her licence.
Anne-Marie Critchley, representing the retired sports star, said: ‘Mr Pardew’s mother cannot use public transport and fears total isolation without her support.
‘He would be isolated and unable to see family. ‘She was also having difficulty shopping and attending appointments.’
Pardew, of Warlingham, Surrey, was also ordered to pay a total of £1034 by magistrate Sonia Case, who said the circumstances did not present the expected hardship.
Miss Case told the court: ‘Whilst we sympathize with the plight of a 93-year-old woman, we do not consider this hardship to be exceptional in the circumstances.

After retiring as a player, he moved into management, taking charge of Reading in 1999 before taking on roles at West Ham United, Charlton, Southampton, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.
While managing Newcastle United in 2014, Pardew was banned for seven games and fined £160,000 for headbutting Hull’s David Meyler.
“This was just a spur of the moment incident and, frankly, I deeply regret it,” he said of the incident at the time.
He later worked abroad, managing ADO Den Haag in the Netherlands and CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria.
Pardew’s managerial career has been marked by both success and controversy; He led West Ham to the 2006 FA Cup Final and Newcastle to a fifth-place Premier League finish in 2012; His subsequent overseas adventures yielded mixed results.
In a separate legal traffic case last week, broadcaster Kirsty Gallacher was banned from driving for six months after collecting 12 penalty points. Gallacher, 49, pleaded guilty to speeding.
The star was caught going 35mph in a 30mph zone near his Berkshire home and argued the ban would cause ‘extraordinary hardship’ due to health issues; He is being treated for a benign brain tumor and is the sole caregiver for his two teenage sons, he said.
