Trump says Melania hates his ‘unpresidential’ dancing

The US president gets cheers from his supporters as he dances on stage at his political rallies, but first lady Melania Trump has revealed she doesn’t like dancing with Donald.

“My wife hates it when I do this,” Donald Trump said during a meandering speech to Republican lawmakers in Washington. “He’s a very classy person, isn’t he? He said, ‘It’s unbecoming of the presidency.’ I said, ‘But I became president.'”

The first lady was not at the event Tuesday night.

Trump often reveals his signature moves at the end of his speeches, stretching his arms out erratically while the rest of his body remains rigid while the YMCA song plays on the speakers.

“I said everyone wanted me to dance,” Trump told lawmakers, describing his meeting with his wife. “‘Darling, this is not the presidency.’ In fact, ‘Can you imagine FDR dancing?’ he said. He told me that.”

“I said maybe there was a long history that he didn’t know about, because he was a gracious man, even as a Democrat,” Trump said.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, better known as FDR, was paralyzed from the waist down due to polio but was rarely photographed in a wheelchair during his presidency.

Trump also said he didn’t like how the first lady sometimes pretended to lift weights during her speeches to dramatize her efforts to prevent transgender people from competing in women’s weightlifting competitions.

“Weightlifting sucks,” he was quoted as saying.

The First Lady’s press secretary did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Undeterred, Trump repeated the weightlifting anecdote on Tuesday. When he finished speaking, he did a quick dance before leaving the stage.
