Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, wrote a letter to Union Chemicals and Fertilizer Minister JP Nadda, urging him to ensure adequate supply of fertilizer recommended by the State for the Samba (Rabi head) season.
In his letter, the Chief Minister said that the State could increase paddy production to record levels due to the joint efforts of the State government, such as the announcement and implementation of Kuruvai (Kharif) special package for paddy growers with an expenditure of 215 million rupees and timely opening of dams for irrigation.
He said that since the northeast monsoon in Tamil Nadu started on October 16 and water is available in all major reservoirs, there is a huge desire among farmers to cultivate maximum area under paddy during the Samba season and with this, the demand for fertilizers, especially Urea, is likely to increase in November.
Mr. Stalin said Samba paddy area is also expected to increase in addition to cultivation of other crops like maize, blackgram, greengram, groundnut and sugarcane.
As of now, the Fertilizers Department, Government of India has allocated 6.5 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of Urea, 1.5 LMT DAP, 1.8 LMT MOP and 5.14 LMT NPK Complex fertilizers against the requirement of 6.94 LMT Urea, 1.93 LMT DAP, 1.88 LMT MOP and 5.15 LMT NPK recommended by the Government. He said complex fertilizers.
He urged the Union Minister to ensure that the State’s proposal is duly evaluated and timely supplied by fertilizer companies to meet the requirements. He also thanked the Union Minister for ensuring adequate supply of fertilizer to Tamil Nadu for the Kharif season.
