Car flies off Tulsa bridge onto I-244, injuring 1-year-old not in car seat

A vehicle flew off the Tulsa bridge and crashed upside down on an interstate early Saturday, injuring a 1-year-old child and causing the highway to be closed as rescue crews rushed to the scene.
The Tulsa Police Department said officers responding near Southwest Boulevard in Tulsa around 5:08 a.m. found the vehicle overturned in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 244 after going over a fence and falling off an overpass.
Officers reported that they heard a child crying at the scene.
Police said a 17-year-old driver, an 18-year-old passenger and a 1-year-old child were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Police said the 17-year-old boy failed to stop at a stop sign before turning around a slight curve in the road and hit the curb, sending the car flying over the drainage ditch.

The vehicle then hit the barrier and crashed onto the highway below.

The child was not in a car seat and was injured but was expected to recover after being taken to the hospital, officials said.

Police and highway patrol officers closed lanes of the interstate to allow firefighters and emergency services to reach the wreckage.
