Car hits multiple pedestrians in British city centre

A man has been arrested after a car crashed into several pedestrians in the center of Derby, England.

Derbyshire Police said several people were injured, some seriously, in the incident in the CBD on Saturday night.

Police said a black Suzuki Swift was stopped at Friar Gate after the incident at around 9.30pm (8.30am Sunday).

Police said some of the injured were seriously injured and were treated at the scene by ambulance crews before being taken to hospital.

The driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested and taken into police custody.

“Whilst we know this will be concerning, we would like to reassure people that we do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public,” police said in a statement on Facebook. he said.

Derby is in the East Midlands, 180 km north of London.
