Fire erupts at residential construction site in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A fast-moving fire broke out at a residential construction site in West Teralta early Sunday, completely engulfing the structure and prompting temporary evacuations, authorities said.

San Diego Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene at 4020 42nd Street around 12:30 a.m. and found a two-story building under construction already engulfed in flames. A power line fell near the building, which may have played a role in the fire, but that has not yet been determined, officials said.

Several evacuation orders were issued for nearby homes, but all have since been lifted, according to fire officials.

San Diego Gas & Electric was called to the scene, which is standard procedure for structure fires, especially those involving power lines.

The San Diego Police Department and SDF investigated the fire for potential arson, but no signs of foul play were found.

While no injuries or injuries were reported, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
