Carlton rejects Swans offer for Curnow; Merrett, Petracca, Oliver still looking for deals on final day; Buckley speaks on new role; Tarryn Thomas eligible to return
As 19.30 approaches, the predictions are as follows:
Sometimes you can predict what will happen in exchanges by the way the negotiations are going, how far each side is willing to go, and most obviously the sticking points.
That’s why I believe Charlie Curnow will be traded to Sydney and become a Gold Coast player, fulfilling Christian Petracca’s wish.

Carlton opposes returning option 22; This type of choice almost always pays off when there is a grievance that delays the exchange.
Similar logic applies to Melbourne’s Petracca line; The Suns got the seventh and eighth picks, which is a super deal, no matter what the Demons say, and they would be foolish to pass up this opportunity.
Predictions coming back to the Gold Coast will be sorted. How many players will attract two top-10 picks in any draft (even if that draft is very broad and weak)?
Clayton Oliver will definitely be a Giant. It will simply be a matter of how much of the massive $1.3 million (five times) contract Melbourne will pay. Quite a lot.
Marshall goes to telegraph
I have less confidence in Rowan Marshall’s desire to get on the highway with Nathan Buckley and play for the Cats.
St Kilda will take some convincing.
My guess is that this agreement will be achieved too late, after the brink of conflict.
Buku Khamis will go to Carlton, yes. They do not argue over sheep stations in this process.
Is it too late for De Goey?
Collingwood appear to have left the race too late to sign Jordan De Goey.
He doesn’t have an obvious suitor – Melbourne or Hawthorn would make sense (Hawk only if Zach Merrett ends up stranded at Essendon) as they could pick from just inside the top 10 and that would only require a proper first round pick.
