Carol Vorderman says she no longer wants to settle down after admitting she has five ‘special friends’ with whom she is in relationships.

The former Countdown presenter, 65, has been single since splitting from journalist Des Kelly in 2007 after being married twice.

However, in her statement on Saturday, she clarified that she has no plans to find a man and settle down anytime soon.

Speaking to The Mirror, Carol said: ‘I have no desire to settle down at the moment. Maybe when I’m 82 and I’m with a 45-year-old!’

Commenting on society’s expectations of women, Carol continued: ‘There’s this idea that women need a man to travel, to live, to have fun; You really, really don’t need this.

‘It’s not anti-men, it’s pro-women, there’s a whole world out there and women are trying to reach it.’

Last year Carol admitted she had five ‘special friends’ who were in relationships; However, he had previously said that he had ‘never had a one-night stand’.

Carol has previously revealed that she is “not into one-night stands” but has dated multiple men, whom she affectionately calls her “special friends”.

Speaking to You magazine in 2023, the star said that everything went well because she did not want to fall in love and was not a jealous person.

Carol said that her lovers were all single and that she wouldn’t mind if any of her lovers fell in love with someone else and moved on.

‘Oh yes, yes, ‘my special friends’,’ he said. ‘I continue with this system and it works very well.’

He continued: ‘I’m not a jealous person and I’m happy when my friends are happy, whether they’re ‘special friends’ or not.

‘The purpose of my life is to be happy, not to fall in love. I find people interesting and life interesting.

‘And you can get to a stage where you can choose which parts you enjoy. You can’t do that in your 30s because you’re making progress in your career, you’re beholden to bosses and things like that. But in his 60s…’

After making the comments, he posed for a selfie with his best friend of 35 years, Craig Burton, as they enjoyed their incredible holiday in France.

He wrote: ‘RETURNED FROM FAMILY HOLS IN FRANCE (12 of us) at my friend’s house @tafiartfrance (you can also book the whole house or just one room for a B&B for a few nights, it’s a real paradise)’.

Elaborating on his strong bond with Craig, he explained: ‘I have known Craigy B for over 35 years. We met through friends at Yorkshire TV in Leeds, where Richard Whiteley and I were doing Countdown.

‘Craigy B and I have been laughing ever since. He’s very Yorkshire and totally funny and we have lots of mutual friends. I love him… Let’s face it… everyone who meets him loves him.’

She added: ‘Ps, not wearing make-up for 10 days is heaven, I’m not a lazy bitch!!!’

Carol was first married to Christopher Mather from 1985 to 1986, then to Patrick King, her second husband from 1990 to 2000 and the father of her two children.
