Caversham caravan park: Elderly man hit with axe defending himself with fly spray against ‘berserk’ assailant

An 82-year-old man defended himself by spraying fly spray into the attacker’s eyes after telling the driver to slow down at a caravan park in Perth’s northeast.
Albert Bullock underwent surgery at Royal Perth Hospital following the shocking incident in Caversham at around 5.30pm on Thursday.
The great-grandfather, who has lived there for 20 years, told 7News that the violence broke out when a male driver came “flying down the hill” despite the park’s 3-mph speed limit.
The man heard Mr. Bullock say, “Dude, can you slow down?” After shouting, he initially responded with swearing.
“And I was like, ‘oh, fuck it, man.’
“He was coming for me and I thought he was going to attack my head.
“But it was like I just lifted my arm and that got me through the worst.”
Mr Bullock said he “would have died” if he had not done so.
“I guess he really lost his sugar. He was going crazy,” the old man said.
“I lost so much blood.
“I put a few drops of fly spray in his eyes and then he walked away.”
Mr. Bullock has lost feeling in his left two fingers and says he is not sure if the feeling will return.
But despite the terrible odds, he retained his sense of humor.
“This thing weighs a fucking ton,” he said, referring to the cast on his arm.
“I keep hitting my head with it. Soon I’ll end up with a broken skull here.”
Mr Bullock praised an off-duty paramedic who came to his aid as neighbors called triple zero, describing him as “very clever”.
“The other warehouses knew each other. I said, ‘Come on, it’s not a party, fix me.'”
Mr. Bullock had a message for the attacker.
“Come on, man. For Christ’s sake, live a goddamn life and leave the old ones alone,” he said.
Anyone who witnessed the attack is asked to call Crime Stoppers at: 1800 333 000.
