Man arrested over deaths of Karl Gruber-Terrick and his father
“My father and Karl [jnr] was our joy,” Rebecca said recently Age. “They brought happiness… They made life so much better.”
Karl jnr played football for Fitzroy Stars and was getting his life back on track by working at North-East Link after being jailed for an attack in the Northern Territory on Christmas Eve 2020, his sister said.
“When he came home from Darwin, he wanted to rebuild his future and…do something with his life,” Rebecca said.
Karl Snr also had a history with the criminal justice system, and relatives at the Invasion Day rally in Melbourne criticized the media for focusing on this issue so soon after his death.
They also expressed anger that no one was charged so soon after the incident, but police defended the investigation.
“Victoria Police recognizes the frustrations expressed by families grieving the loss of loved ones and in many ways these frustrations reflect our own,” a spokesperson said in February.

“Since these deaths occurred on January 16, investigators have worked tirelessly to determine who was responsible.”
Meanwhile, Margaret Gruber-Terrick can’t forget seeing her son screaming for help while her husband lay motionless on Observatory Street outside a relative’s house.
“We don’t know how we will celebrate this little boy’s birthday again,” he said Age with tears lately.
“How will we celebrate Christmas?”
