EC Orders Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Of Voter List In Assam, Final Roll-On Feb.10

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday ordered Special Revision (SR) of electoral rolls in Assam instead of Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The SR process begins on November 18, with January 1, 2026 as the qualifying date.
This means that anyone on the voting list by January 1, 2026 will be included on the voting list in state legislature elections scheduled for next year.
“There are special provisions for citizenship in the state of Assam. Verification of citizenship is currently being done under the supervision of the Supreme Court and is in the final stages. Therefore, SR is being ordered instead of SIR,” the ECI said. The commission had previously expected the final list of the National Register of Citizens to be published by November. However, due to the delay in the list, ECI decided to continue with its standard SR.
Under SR, Cabin Level Officers (BLOs) will start house-to-house verification from November 22. During field verification, BLOs will visit the homes of existing voters with a pre-populated BLO record containing the details of the voters to ensure verification or correction of existing details from the voters.
During SR, voters can update photos. Rationalization and reorganization of voting centers will be ensured.
The draft logs will be published on December 27, and the filing period for claims and objections will be until January 22, 2026. The final electoral roll will be published on February 10, 2026.
