Days after an Afghan citizen opened fire on two National Guard personnel near the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump made a major move Friday, announcing that he would “permanently pause immigration from all Third World Countries” to allow the U.S. system to “fully recover.”
The move comes after a shooting of two National Guard personnel near the White House, in which one of them died. The announcement had huge global ramifications, affecting millions of people who traveled to the United States for work, education, and also to escape persecution in their home countries.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump argued that despite America’s technological advancement, its immigration policies “undermine those advances and worsen living conditions for many.”

“To allow the U.S. system to fully heal, I will permanently halt immigration from all Third World Countries, end millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and remove anyone who has no net worth for the United States or the ability to love our Country, end all Federal aid and subsidies to non-citizens of our Country, denaturalize immigrants who undermine civil peace, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or to Western Civilization “It is not appropriate,” he said.
Earlier, Trump condemned the shooting of two National Guard soldiers near the White House and described the act as terrorism and a crime against humanity. Briefing the media, Trump said that the detained suspect was a foreigner who came from Afghanistan by air transport in 2021 and described the country as a “hell hole.”
“This is a disgusting attack, an act of evil, an act of hatred, an act of terrorism. It is a crime against our entire nation. It is a crime against humanity,” he said.
Trump confirmed that the Afghan suspect is in custody.
On Thursday, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced an indefinite halt to all immigration proceedings against Afghan citizens, effective immediately.
