Charlotte Church was among the stars forced to dig their own grave in the first episode of The Celebrity Traitors on Wednesday.

The celebrities in attendance were taken to a cemetery where each had a headstone with their name on it.

Host Claudia Winkleman told them that the first six celebrities to find a shield buried in their graves would receive immunity from the first murder.

While many of the contestants dug their graves with shovels, Charlotte, wearing a white dress, went directly into her grave and dug it with her bare hands.

This move paid off and he became one of the first six people to find a shield against the first murder and gain immunity.

But he gave it up towards the end of the episode as he completed his challenge to add £15,000 to the celebrity prize fund.

Charlotte gave up her immunity towards the end of the episode as the celebrities completed the task of adding £15,000 to the prize fund.

Other celebrities who won immunity were Jonathan Ross, Joe Marler, Joe Wilkinson, Kate Garraway and Celia Imrie.

After receiving their shields, the celebrities were taken to the castle where Claudia chose her traitors.

Host Jonathan chose comedian Alan Carr and singer Cat Burns.

While all the celebrities were blindfolded around the table, Alan couldn’t help but giggle when the TV presenter tapped him on the shoulder.

The comedian admitted that he was worried about the possibility of going unnoticed by his famous friends.

Speaking to the camera, the actor said: ‘I have a sweating problem and I can’t keep a secret. What will I do? ‘There’s a burning weight on my shoulders, I’m so nervous.’

Alan said Claudia looked directly at him as she addressed the traitors in front of the entire group, and that he was “worse than Linda!”, referring to series three contestant Linda Rands, who memorably stared directly at Claudia, causing eventual winner Jake Brown to become suspicious of her. He declared that he was.

‘The cat may surprise us, but it feels like it’s about to fall apart. Alan has NO hope’… ‘Alan Carr will somehow vote him Traitor at the roundtable, right?’

‘Alan Carr has to bite his lip to stop laughing immediately. He has no hope.”

Bosses expect the first season to be a huge success, with the last civilian run airing in January attracting huge ratings of seven million per episode.

Bosses were believed to have begun scouting the next cast before the series aired on BBC One.

Host Claudia has already stipulated that the celebs will not be given any special treatment, so there’s no doubt they’ll be up to the usual awkward challenges.
