Chelsea and West Ham fined £325,000 and £300,000 for ‘mass confrontation’

Chelsea, who fell behind 2-0 in the match, managed to win 3-2 with the goal scored by Enzo Fernandez in extra time before the match.
In its written reasoning, the independent regulatory commission said “this was a serious incident” involving a number of Chelsea players.
The statement included the following: “It was not accepted that Mr. Cucurella was completely blameless. He was aware of his actions after accepting the corner kick and standing up.
“He tried to invite a reaction from Mr Traore. This does not justify Mr Traore’s disproportionate reaction which led to the mass conflict.
“In addition, the commission noted that three Chelsea players attempted to incite the crowd during and towards the end of the incident.
“Regardless of what happened during the match or the mass clash itself, there is no justification for this behaviour. The club accepted the charge and regretted it.”
The commission said both clubs “contributed to the incident” and that Traore’s “disproportionate reaction when Mr Cucurella stood up was the catalyst for what happened”.
The following statements were also made: “It is accepted that, apart from the behavior of Mr Todibo, there was no violent behavior from other players of West Ham United.
“However, a number of West Ham United players acted in an inappropriate and provocative manner and contributed to a serious, ugly incident.”
