Chelsea Handler says she’s ‘not out seeking men’ and values freedom

Chelsea Handler shares her philosophy on men and dating.

Recently “Angie Martinez IRL PodcastThe 51-year-old comedian discussed her views on relationships, marriage and men in general, telling the host that she’s “not looking for a man” and added, “that’s not my agenda in life.”

“I’m here for women and I’m here for myself,” she said. “I’ve never been this thirsty for a man or a partner. You really have to get my attention for me to pay serious attention because otherwise it’s just a bunch of random encounters. You know what I mean? I love it. I love traveling. I love hanging out with guys. I don’t like getting too serious. I don’t want someone in my zone all the time. I’m just not interested in that.”

As for whether she believes in growing old with someone, Handler said, “So yeah, I’m sure,” but then noted that “there are 8 million of us” on Earth, and instead of thinking of yourself as alone when you’re not in a relationship, “You should think of yourself as ‘I’m free. I’m free to make whatever decisions I want for myself now.'”

Freedom is a big deal for the former talk show host, who continued: “My whole vibe is about freedom.”

“I like the idea that I don’t have to talk to anyone about anything I do,” he said of being single. “I don’t have to think about anyone or consult anyone. If I want to get on a plane and go to Paris, which I’ll do right away, I’ll go to Majorca for a month and go by myself. You know what I mean? I’ll do all of that.”

Handler is currently in a relationship with a young man she calls “Cowboy,” whom she met when he lent her $1,000 after sitting next to her at a blackjack table in Las Vegas. They clicked when he later joined her on a trip to Antarctica, and the rest is history.

Despite being successful with her new lover, she still claims marriage is “not something I can do” and calls it an “outdated” tradition and a “really stupid idea”.

“But since I’ve been complaining about marriage my whole public life, it would be really hypocritical for me to get married, which means I’m probably going to do it,” he said. “At some point I might go, okay, f— I’m 50, so I might as well go get married. What could possibly go wrong at this point? But I don’t care about marriage. I don’t care about that. I feel like it’s a very patriarchal thing anyway. You’re a bit like ownership.”

The former “Chelsea Lately” host has had several public relationships in the past; Most recently, she was with fellow comedian Jo Koy, whom she has been dating for less than a year.

Handler announced their separation in July 2022, saying that being loved by Koy “was one of the greatest gifts of my life” and that Koy had a part in renewing her “faith in men, in love, in love.” [and] Because it’s 100% me.”

Also “What Now?” In an episode of his program, he discussed the reason behind their separation. He told Brooke Shields in December 2022 that he thought he found “the one” [I’d] I will spend my life with him” and even considered getting married, but “towards the end of the relationship it became clear that this was not my personality.”

“There were some behaviors that we just didn’t get along with… It felt like I was going to have to abandon myself, which maybe if I was 20 or 25 I would have been willing to do, but I wasn’t willing to do that. As much as I loved this person — and I loved him very much — I wasn’t going to abandon myself,” Handler continued.
