Racist attack | Ottawa Police Service searching for hate crime suspect

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is searching for a suspect in connection with a racially motivated assault that occurred on Saturday.

According to the OPS, a man approached a woman around 3:30 p.m. and said a racial slur to her before forcibly ripping off her hijab.

Police said the man then threw an umbrella at her before fleeing on foot.

The victim was not injured.

Two SPO units, including the one responsible for hate crimes, are continuing the investigation.
