Child in critical condition after being pulled from water
The life of a primary school-age girl remains in danger after she was pulled from the water on the Gold Coast on Friday afternoon.
This was one of a series of incidents attended by Queensland Ambulance Service crews across the state at the start of the Easter long weekend.
A QAS spokesman said five ambulances, including the High Acuity Response Unit, responded to reports of a near-drowning at Marine Parade, Labrador, at around 5.22pm on Friday.
It was learned that the girl, who was treated at the scene, remained in life-threatening condition and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital. A second patient, an adult female, was taken to the same hospital in stable condition.
At the same time, in the Whitsundays, paramedics treated a woman in her 20s for “sea poisoning” in the water near Border Island at 5.22pm. A QAS spokesman said the patient’s condition was stable and he was taken to Proserpine Hospital.
It was unclear Saturday what caused the bite or sting.
Paramedics also attended a single-vehicle crash on the Leichhardt Highway near Isla in central Queensland early on Saturday. A QAS spokesman said that a vehicle crashed into a tree at around 02.42 at night.
Three people were taken to Theodore Hospital in stable condition, while a fourth person, an adult, was uninjured.
The patients included an adult male with a lower leg injury and two elementary-age girls, one with an abdominal injury and the other with a head injury.
