Woman jailed after allegedly forcing rideshare to deliver her to island near Brisbane
A woman has been charged with five offenses after allegedly threatening a rideshare driver with a knife and forcing him to drive 40 kilometers.
Police said the 33-year-old woman, from the Sunshine Coast suburb of Birtinya, entered the carpool on Kingsford Smith Drive in Hamilton shortly after noon on December 17.
He then allegedly pulled a knife and forced the driver to drive approximately 40 kilometers to Masters Boulevard in Victoria Point.
A woman was arrested on Wednesday at the jetty on Coochiemudlo Island, a small island in Moreton Bay.
Officials stated that the driver was not physically harmed.
After arriving at Victoria Point, the woman allegedly abandoned the vehicle and boarded a ferry to Coochiemudlo Island, an island of approximately five square kilometres, one kilometer offshore from Victoria Point.
Police launched an investigation and found the 33-year-old at around 6.15pm.
He was detained on the island and charged with five offenses, including two counts of obstructing a police officer and three counts of threatening and unlawfully detaining a rideshare driver.
The woman appeared in Cleveland Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody. He was expected to appear in court in mid-February.
Coochiemudlo Island falls within Redland City Council and has the large borough of Coochie and a population of just under 1,000.
The passenger ferry departs approximately every half hour and takes 10 minutes to reach Victoria Point pier.
