Melville men’s shed reopens after being closed for most of year for refurbishment

Melville Community Men’s Shed is back in action after being closed for most of the year.
The shed was closed in April for renovations by the City of Melville and reopened on December 7th.
Its $876,000 new look includes an upgraded common room, new passenger elevator, renovated restrooms, a plant room for the new dust extraction system, and a new kitchen and training room.
It now has a much larger area for people to visit and participate in shed activities.
The Federal Government contributed $250,000 to the Men’s Shed through the Investing in Our Communities program and the State Government contributed $50,000 to a new dust removal system.
Melville mayor Katy Mair said the refurbishment was much needed.
“The City of Melville recognizes the importance of places for the community to build social connections and the Melville Community Men’s Shed is an important hub within the city, bringing both men and women together, not only to build and create with tools, but also to meet and make new friends,” he said.
“This renovation is another great example of the work the city is undertaking to ensure we foster healthy and inclusive communities.”
Tangney MHR Sam Lim said he was looking forward to seeing the men’s shed grow.
“Melville Community Men’s Shed is a key community organization in Tangney, providing people with networking opportunities and a welcoming and supportive environment,” he said.
