China buys U.S. soybeans after Trump trade agreement

China continued to buy soybeans from the United States but still fell short of targets set by the trade deal with President Donald Trump, according to an analysis by NBC News.
China was previously one of the largest buyers of U.S. soybeans, but stopped buying American soybeans last spring due to the trade war started by Trump.
The country resumed purchasing soybeans in October. a trade agreement with the United States.
Under this agreement, China has promised to purchase at least 12 million metric tons of US soybeans in the last two months of 2025.
But China has purchased only 2.85 million metric tons of soybeans since Oct. 30, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data compiled by NBC News.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently said China is on track to purchase 12 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans by the end of February. The Trump administration has said China will purchase at least 25 million tons of soybeans over the next three years.
Trump announced Monday that he will provide $12 billion in aid to American farmers affected by the trade war. Trump said the aid would come from U.S. tariff revenues.
