Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did not elaborate to reporters Tuesday on his thoughts on Jalen Ramsey’s ejection from Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. But he made a compelling statement about how one should react in this situation.

Ramsey was ejected from the game in the fourth quarter of the AFC North game after he grabbed Chase’s face mask and punched him. Tensions were rising between the two stars, and after the match, Ramsey accused Chase of spitting on him, which led him to physical intervention.

Tomlin told reporters Tuesday that he was aware of Ramsey’s accusation. He declined to comment on the NFL’s decision to suspend Chase for one game.

“I was aware of it. I certainly spoke to Jalen in-game; it’s unfortunate. This is not common behavior in the game of football, it has nothing to do with football,” Tomlin said. “So I will not comment on this matter. The NFL office has made its decision on this matter and we are moving forward.”

When asked later about texting Ramsey, Tomlin didn’t offer much. But he made his stance pretty clear on Ramsey’s response to the spitting incident.

“If someone spits in your face, I have no message. Do what comes naturally.”
