Actor Kiefer Sutherland arrested over alleged assault of ride-share driver

Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested for allegedly assaulting and threatening a rideshare driver in Hollywood, police said.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said Sutherland “entered a rideshare, physically assaulted the driver (victim), and made criminal threats” in the incident, which occurred at 12:15 a.m. PST (08:15 GMT) on Monday.

The LAPD added that the victim was not injured in the incident.

Sutherland, 59, was released after paying bail of $50,000 (£37,000). He will appear in court on February 2. The BBC has contacted its representatives for comment.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Boulevard in Hollywood and is under investigation by the LAPD’s Hollywood Division.

Sutherland, known for his role as special agent Jack Bauer on Fox’s 24 and his role as the US president in Designated Survivor, is the son of actor Donald Sutherland.

The Canadian actor has been arrested several times in the past and was sentenced to 48 days in jail in 2007 for drunk driving and probation violation.

He was arrested for assault in 2009, but the charge was later dropped and he was most recently arrested in 2020 after making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.
