There is reportedly a large police presence in Gateshead, with police cars, vans and armed officers seen on a residential street. On the morning of Sunday, May 24, police officers arrived at Grange Crescent, on the cordoned-off Leam Lane estate, to make the arrest.

Northumbria Police said the man was “held at an address on the street” and was “suspected of carrying a weapon”. Police urged the public to avoid the area, adding that the man “is currently refusing to comply with officers.” Armed police officers were seen in a clip circulating on social media.
