Chinese bridge partially collapses months after opening

In China’s southwestern province of Sichuan, part of a recently opened bridge on the highway connecting the country’s center to Tibet collapsed, local officials said, but no casualties were reported.
Police in the town of Maerkang closed the 758-meter-long Hongqi bridge to all traffic on Monday afternoon after cracks appeared on nearby hillsides and roads and slides were seen across the terrain of a mountain, the local government said.
It was stated that conditions on the mountainside worsened on Tuesday afternoon, triggering a landslide, which caused the approach bridge and roadbed to collapse.
