Chuck Potthast’s cancer journey

Potthast has discussed his health publicly several times over the years. In an Instagram video posted on April 27, 2022, he told fans that he has been cancer-free for half a decade following surgery:

“Hey, hanging out at the beach, having some fun… I have been cancer free since my surgery in 2017. So I have been cancer free for five years… So I want to thank everyone who has shown love, support, and prayers for my recovery.”

He later underwent additional surgery. On September 15, she posted another post on Instagram explaining that complications from previous cancer surgeries necessitated a longer-than-expected procedure: “My surgery was supposed to last about three to four hours… When they got there, they found that my stomach wall had completely collapsed… So my surgery took eight hours… I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and support.”

What is glioblastoma?

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant (cancerous) brain tumor in adults. It develops from astrocytes, glial cells that support nerve function, and is known for its rapid and aggressive growth. According to the Cleveland Clinic, these tumors spread rapidly in the brain or spinal cord and can be difficult to treat due to their invasive nature.

GBM, formerly called glioblastoma multiforme, is one of the fastest-growing astrocytomas and can be fatal within months if left untreated. More than 13,000 people are diagnosed with this disease each year in the United States.
