Church explosion injures 5 people in Boonville, New York

New York State Police have launched an investigation into the explosion that injured five people at the Abundant Life Fellowship church in Boonville, New York.
Church leaders said their pastor and a congregation member were in the building and called first responders just before 10:30 a.m. local time to report an “apparent gas leak.”
An explosion occurred while the pastor, a congregation member and a Boonville Fire Department firefighter were inside the building, according to the church and New York State Police.
Five people were taken to Wynn Hospital in Utica, including a Boonville firefighter and a civilian in critical condition, authorities said.

The treatment of 3 of the injured, whose injuries are not considered life-threatening, continues.
New York State Police said the church suffered “catastrophic damage,” and the church noted that the building was almost completely engulfed in flames and smoke within 15 minutes of the explosion.
The church was reportedly heated with propane cylinders, but the exact cause of the explosion is under investigation, according to police.

Authorities said there was no sign of criminal activity.
New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Uniform Force members are on scene to assist with the investigation.

“Please pray for peace, especially for Pastor Brandon and MaeLeah,” the church wrote. Facebook post. “And go on and lavish praise on the Lord’s protection against all that is NOT in the church in this time of emergency.”
New York Governor Kathy Hochul responded to the tragedy on social media, stating that she had been informed.
“The State Fire Marshal, Office of Emergency Management, and Emergency Management personnel are on scene,” Hochul wrote in an X post. “I pray for the full recovery of the 5 injured people.”
New York State Police and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to additional questions from Fox News Digital.
