Two of Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss’ jerseys were stolen by Mississippi State fans before the Egg Bowl rivalry game, head coach Lane Kiffin said Friday.

Kiffin made this statement during his speech to the SEC Network before the game. He said the school’s equipment manager put cameras in the locker room Thursday night just to watch fans come in. He said the school reported the initial theft to Mississippi State, which provided increased security around the locker rooms. But fans broke in again early Friday morning and stole Chambliss’ jerseys, he said.

“I guess you don’t expect anything less from these people,” Kiffin said.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Mississippi State for comment. The Egg Bowl game between the two schools was being played in Starkville, home of Mississippi State.

It was a game that meant a little more to Kiffin and Ole Miss, with the head coach’s future at stake and the Rebels’ chances of getting into the SEC Championship with a win.

Just before kickoff, Kiffin was asked how his players were able to keep their heads in the game and not be distracted by the noise outside.

“They’ve been dealing with this for many weeks in a row, so we’re focused on 1-0. There’s a lot at stake here,” he said. “Rivalry games, records don’t mean anything. But to get to 11 wins, we would be the first team in the history of this state. That would be great. But we’re going to have to play really consistently and play really good football for four quarters.”
