Bolton: Bus smashes into low bridge ripping off roof in terrifying crash | UK | News

A bus crashed into a low bridge in Bolton on Friday night, tearing off its roof and sending debris strewn across the road. The Bee Network bus collided with the bridge over Weston Street at around 7.45pm on Friday, November 7. Manchester Evening News reports.

There were no passengers on the Bee Network bus at the time of the collision in the Burnden area of ​​Bolton, south of the city centre. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said it was understood the driver did not suffer any serious injuries.

The railway bridge is 3.7 m high and has a “low bridge” sign on it. TfGM said the bus, operated by Go North West, was being driven to depot when the incident occurred.

The road was closed by Greater Manchester Police while the bus was moved and the damage repaired.

Photos taken after the incident show the roof of the vehicle lying on the road.

A TfGM spokesman said: “At around 7.45pm this evening an out-of-service bus collided with a low bridge on Weston Street. BoltonIt caused major damage to the roof of the vehicle.

“The bus, operated by Go North West, was being returned to depot at the time of the incident, was out of service and had no passengers on board.

“Greater Manchester Police attended the scene and the road was closed as a precaution while the bus was moved.

“Thankfully, there were no passengers on board and we know that the driver did not suffer serious injuries.

“We support the immediate police response and will work closely with the operator to fully understand the circumstances leading to the collision.”

Go North West’s parent company, Go-Ahead Group, has been approached for comment.
