Wanted Maoist killed in encounter with security forces in Bihar

A Maoist carrying a ₹50,000 bounty on his head was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Bihar’s Begusarai district, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Dayanand Malakar, secretary of the north Bihar Central District Committee of the outlawed CPI-Maoist. They said two of his co-workers were arrested.

According to a statement issued by Bihar Police Special Task Force (STF), “Malakar alias Chotu, a Naxal wanted by the police in more than 14 criminal cases, died following an encounter with a joint team of STF and district police in Teghra area of ​​Begusarai on Wednesday evening, December 31, 2025.”

The statement said, “The security personnel, who took action upon the notice, reached the point where Malakar was hiding with his friends. Noticing the police personnel, Malakar tried to escape and shot at the police. The security personnel retaliated in self-defense. The Naxal was injured in the conflict and two of his accomplices were arrested.”

It was announced that Malakar was taken to the nearest state hospital and died there. It was stated that no security guard was injured in the conflict.

Police also seized a 5.56 MM INSAS rifle, a village-made pistol, 25 live cartridges and 15 empty cartridges at the scene.

“Malakar, carrying a bounty of ₹ 50,000 on his head, participated in many Naxalite operations… in northern Bihar,” the statement said.
