Elderly woman dies, seven injured at temple procession in M.P.’s Gwalior

An elderly woman was killed and seven people, including a child, were injured in a stampede-like situation during a religious procession in Dabra town of Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district on Tuesday (February 10, 2026), police officials said.
According to police, the incident took place around 10.45 am at Dabra stadium, where a large crowd of women wearing yellow and red saris had gathered for the first day of the 10-day march to the Navgrah Temple, which was scheduled to be inaugurated at the end of the march. It was stated that the deceased was 70-year-old Rati Sahu.
Gwalior Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Amit Sanghi said: Hindu While six of the seven injured are in danger, one seriously injured woman is currently under observation in Gwalior. Mr. Sanghi said adequate security arrangements were in place for the parade.
“The incident occurred because the door opened suddenly and there was a platform at the door and that may have caused the women to fall. The situation is under control now,” he said.
The grand temple was built by former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister and senior BJP leader Narottam Mishra’s foundation and the inauguration ceremony will continue till February 20. Various senior politicians and religious preachers like Pradeep Mishra, Kumar Vishwas and Dhirendra Shastri along with over lakh devotees are expected to attend the ceremony on different days.
Mr Sanghi said more than 1,500 personnel would be deployed each day for the parade.
“Senior officials and I visited the area today (Tuesday) and directed improvements in regulations to prevent such a situation,” he added.
