In a swift action responding to public complaints, Yadgir City Municipal Council (CMC) officials cleared the violations just outside the central bus terminal in Yadgir city.
CMC has various carts and kiosks on site where vendors sell fruits, tiffins, tea and coffee, cold drinks and other eateries.
Many shoppers complained about traffic disruptions as most buyers stood on the side of the busy road. Additionally, autorickshaws often park in front of these shops, adding to traffic congestion and public noise.
“Given the public inconvenience, CMC had to take action and removed all the shops here,” CMC President Kumari Lalita Anapur said.
On the other hand, shoppers requested the CMC to allow them to run their businesses as the income from such businesses helps meet family needs.
“CMC will plan to make arrangements to fix a particular place for such works without disrupting traffic movement. But this will take some time,” Ms. Anapur said.
He also pointed out that CMC has received complaints from shoppers regarding illegal rent collection by an unknown person.
“We were only concerned about the irregular business activities of shoppers and pushcart vendors. As part of the action to ensure proper management, we have eliminated all violations and have no intention of harming poor vendors,” he explained.
