A two-year-old boy at a nursery in Italy has died after reportedly being ‘strangled by his sweater’.
The incident took place at around 11.30 at the Ambarabà Ciccì Coccò kindergarten in Bibienna.
The little boy was found dead by nursery staff.
According to the information obtained, part of his sweater got tangled in a tree while he was running around.
While paramedics tried to perform heart massage, the air ambulance could not reach the scene. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prosecutors have opened an involuntary manslaughter investigation and the daycare will remain closed until at least next week.
Footage showed horrified locals crying outside the nursery when they heard the news.
The Koiné cooperative, which manages the nursery, said: “We have no words that can alleviate the unbearable pain of the parents and family of the child who died this morning.
“Tragedy is also our pain, because we feel like the children who greet us with a smile every morning are our own children.
“Our staff, stunned and devastated by the tragedy, was made available to investigators.”
