Cold case arrest made more than 30 years after brutal murder of couple in their home

An 86-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a couple more than 30 years ago.

Harry and Megan Tooze were found dead in a cowshed with gunshot wounds at their farmhouse in Llanharry, near Cardiff, on 26 July 1993.

South Wales Police arrested a man earlier today and he is currently in police custody.

Police have launched a judicial review of the case in 2023 in the hope of uncovering new evidence about the murders of Mr Tooze, 64, and Ms Tooze, 67.

Detective Superintendent Mark Lewis said: “Whilst this arrest is clearly a significant development in the investigation, our inquiries remain very much ongoing.

“This case has affected so many people over the years and our aim is to find answers to questions that have remained unanswered for 30 years about the deaths of these people.

“Even though all this time has passed, I would urge anyone with information about the murders to come forward and speak to police.”

The couple left home to collect their pensions in Llanharry on the morning of 26 July 1993.

At around 13.30, two gunshots were heard by neighbors.

However, emergency services were not notified because the noise on the farm was considered normal.

When their daughter’s regular phone call went unanswered, the police were called.

Officers went to the Ty Ar y Waun farm and found the couple’s bodies in a cow shed.
