Congress Is United, Says Digvijaya Singh Amid RSS Praise Fiasco

New Delhi: After Congress leader Digvijaya Singh praised the organizational strength of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP took advantage of Singh’s recent statements to attack the Congress, the Senior Congress leader declared that the party was united and alleged that the BJP was trying to create discord within the Nehru-Gandhi family.
Speaking to ANI, Digvijaya Singh said, “There is no difference in ideology. We (Congress) are all together and this Nehru-Gandhi family is a family in which two people were martyred. I strongly condemn the attempts of the BJP to create discord within this family.”
“Rahul Gandhi has started this initiative (strengthening the organization) at the district level and from below. The process for this is ongoing. It will be completed soon,” he added.
Earlier, Telangana BJP President N Ramchander Rao on Sunday said Congress senior leader Digvijaya Singh’s remarks must have been acknowledging an “internal matter”, but the truth is that the BJP always encourages its genuine workers.
N Ramchander Rao said, “Why he made this statement in his tweet is a personal internal matter of the Congress… Although the message given through his tweet is objectionable to the Congress and we feel it is an internal matter of the Congress party, the truth is that the BJP always encourages its genuine workers.” he said.
Digvijaya Singh on Saturday issued a statement after Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an old photograph of him with senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani and said that while he appreciates their strong organizational structure, he remains firmly opposed to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Responding to criticism on his social media post, Singh said his words were misunderstood: “I support the organisation. I am against RSS and Modi ji. You have misunderstood. I praised ‘Sangathan’. I was, am and will remain a staunch opponent of RSS and Modi. Is it a bad thing to strengthen and praise the organisation?” he said. Singh’s remarks came after he shared a 1990s black-and-white photograph on social question-and-answer site Quora showing a young Narendra Modi sitting on the ground next to senior BJP leader LK Advani at an event in Gujarat.
In a post shared on Party president Mallikarjun Kharge described it as “the power of organisation”, tagging senior Congress leaders like MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, PM Modi and also Congress officials. Singh’s post
