Congress Reaches Out to Communities in Adilabad for Municipality Elections

ADILABAD: The Congress has stepped up outreach to community leaders in Adilabad as part of its municipal elections campaign, seeking support on social justice and development.
Party leaders appointed coordinators in each of the four wards in Adilabad municipality. They met with community representatives, discussed long-pending demands and assured them that the issues would be addressed in phases.
Members of the Maratha community met Sachin Sawant, AICC secretary in-charge of Telangana, and submitted presentations highlighting their issues. Responding to the delegation, Sawant assured that the process would take some time but the issues would be resolved. Community leaders presented portraits of Chhatrapati Shivaji to Congress leaders at the event.
Addressing the meeting, Sawant said there was an ideological tussle between the Congress and the BJP, representing development and conflict respectively. He called on people to think about future generations and support Congress that upholds democratic values, social justice and the principles enshrined in the Constitution.
Naresh Jadhav, president of Adilabad District Congress Committee, said that the party has allocated a significant share of tickets to backward communities in municipal elections. He said candidates were competing in 49 districts and 30 percent of the seats were reserved for women.
Congress leaders said they planned to continue meetings with various community representatives to explain the political situation and alleged that the BJP-led Central government and the RSS were working against the Constitution, democracy and the reservation system.
Sawant alleged that the BJP promotes division and inequality, while reiterating that the Congress stands for development and equality. He said the party’s agenda focuses on development, employment creation and social harmony.
He criticized the BJP and RSS, claiming that they were dividing people on communal lines and accused the BJP of not addressing issues related to crony capitalism. He said that the state government was taking steps to set up an industrial park in Adilabad to create employment.
