Major Prince Harry update as Duke ‘won’t return’ to Sentebale charity | Royal | News

It has been reported that Prince Harry will not be returning to Sentebale, which has been “tarnished” by his violent row with the charity’s president, Sophie Chandauka. The charity, which Harry co-founded in 2006, is said to have suffered a funding crisis since the Duke of Sussex stepped down as patron last year.

The bitter argument saw Sophie accuse Harry of bullying, racism and misogyny, after which he backed away from the charity altogether. Founded in memory of the late Princess Diana, Sentebale was established to help young people and children in South Africa, especially those living with HIV and AIDS.

Since Harry’s decision to step down, there have been mass resignations from the charity’s board, and the Charity Commission has also produced a damning report into the situation.

Sources close to the charity said this Times: “The idea of Harry coming back is completely gone. There’s absolutely no way now. Everything’s too dark.”

Speaking about the current status of the charity, sources in Botswana also told the publication that the charity is “not working at all”.

They also added that there was a “real cash flow issue” with operations in Lesotho “going into the red”.

In April last year, Harry’s statement confirming his decision to resign read: “Since the inception of Sentebale nearly 20 years ago, Prince Seeiso and I have had a clear goal: to support children and young people in South Africa in memory of our mothers.

“It was heartbreaking to witness what happened last week, especially when such blatant lies hurt those who invested decades in this common goal. No one suffers more than those who benefited from Sentebale.”

Alongside her own statement, Dr Sophie Chandauka also spoke to Sky News and accused Harry of “harassment and bullying” and “letting the Sussex machine loose”.

“There are people in this world who act like they are above the law, treat people badly, then play the victim card and use the press they despise to harm people who have the courage to object to their behavior,” he said in the statement.
