Constable arrested under POCSO Act

A police constable has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing an underage girl while on duty in central Bengaluru.

The accused has been identified as constable Yamuna Nayak attached to RT Nagar police station. The incident took place on Friday morning near Freedom Park in the heart of the city.

According to the police, Nayak was assigned to bandobast duty at Freedom Park for allegedly harassing a pre-college college student. The victim later filed a complaint. Upparpet police registered a case against Nayak under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012 and took him into custody.

The case comes at a time when the police force is facing public criticism and a series of suspensions.
