Cop Suspended for Sexually Harassing Student on Train

Chennai: A police constable attached to RS Puram police station in Coimbatore has been suspended from duty for allegedly sexually harassing a law student on the Chennai-Coimbatore Intercity Express; This triggered outrage and raised serious concerns about passenger safety.
The accused, identified as Sheikh Abdullah, was traveling in the train after completing security duty in Chennai. According to police sources, the incident took place when the train was approaching Katpadi, when the police officer allegedly harassed the woman who was traveling alone.
The shocked student reportedly recorded the incident on his mobile phone and later lodged a formal complaint with the railway police. Acting on the complaint, railway police officials caught Sheikh Abdullah at Arakkonam railway station and interrogated him.
Officials said video footage provided by the complainant clearly corroborates the allegation. After verification of the evidence, the police registered a sexual harassment case against the officer.
Based on the findings and seriousness of the charge, senior police officials ordered immediate suspension of Sheikh Abdullah from his duty at SC Puram police station.
The incident caused widespread shock, especially since it involved a police officer whose job it was to ensure the safety and security of the public. The authorities assured that strict disciplinary and legal action will be taken in accordance with the law and the case will be pursued without leniency.
