COP30 evacuated after fire breaks out

UN climate talks COP30 were evacuated due to a fire in Belém, Brazil.
BBC reporters saw flames and smoke in the pavilion area before being escorted out The place where fire trucks pass quickly.
The Brazilian government announced that the fire was under control and no one was injured.
Orange flames ripped a hole in the pavement covering the site of a former airport. In one of the videos, a man can be seen spraying a fire extinguisher on a fire before running away.
It is not yet known what caused the fire. An eyewitness told the BBC he believed the cause of the fire was an electrical fire.
Hundreds of people are sitting outside on the ground or on plastic chairs due to high temperatures and humidity.
A woman was taken away in a wheelchair, but it is unclear whether this was related to the fire.
A member of the UK delegation told the BBC that some of the country’s delegations had to take shelter outside under the roof of a petrol station. He said the fire stalled the negotiations.
The UN, which runs the COP climate meetings, said fire crews checked the venue to assess security and the summit was temporarily taken over by Brazilian authorities.
Thousands of people, including delegation members from around the world, attend the UN climate talks.
Nearly 200 countries are trying to agree on how to make progress in combating climate change.
