Police charge two men over 80kg haul of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine in Western Australia
WA Police have charged two men after seizing more than 80 kilograms of illegal drugs following a traffic stop in the state’s South West earlier this year.
Detectives from the Drugs and Firearms squad allege a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were involved in the supply and dealing of illegal drugs after police carried out a traffic stop on the Forrest Highway in January this year.
Police stopped and searched the silver Mazda 3 sedan driven by the 26-year-old driver, where they allegedly found a package containing approximately one kilogram of cocaine.
Police claimed that the driver picked up the package from a park in Piara Waters an hour ago and that the package was left by the 20-year-old young man.
Following investigations, the 20-year-old man was tracked down by police and detained in Balcatta. During the search here, approximately 3 kilos of methamphetamine were seized.
Detectives later executed a search warrant at a house on Cabramatta Street in Bayswater and seized more than 50 kilograms of methylamphetamine, 20 kilograms of cocaine and two kilograms of heroin.
A second search warrant was executed at a home in Laurent Way, Dalyellup, where detectives allegedly found more cocaine, meth and illegal prescription drugs in possession.
In total, police seized 57 kilos of methamphetamine, 23 kilos of cocaine and 2.5 kilos of heroin.
On Wednesday police announced the 20-year-old man, from Victoria, had been charged with one count of possession of a merchantable quantity of methamphetamine with intent to sell or supply to another person and one count of possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply the heroin found.
He is also accused of possessing prohibited drugs with the intent to sell or supply, and is also accused of supplying prohibited drugs through the seized cocaine.
The 26-year-old driver, from Dalyellup, was charged with one count of possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and one count of possession of a prohibited drug, citing the discovery of cocaine.
He also faces charges of possession of a prohibited drug for discovery of methylamphetamine and unlawful possession of a controlled or prescription drug.
Both men are expected to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
