Could 2026 see another govt. shutdown over expiring ACA subsidies?

Let’s talk about another government shutdown. We’ve had the longest year on record, and now it looks like we’ll be entering the new year with the possibility of another. So can you try this too?

Yes, I’m happy. I don’t think we will be shut down again. I generally think we can’t turn it off. Democrats proved they were right with the 45-day shutdown earlier this year, and I don’t think the language we’re getting from leader Schumer is indicative of another shutdown.

One of the things I really propose to point out is that this isn’t necessarily about a policy win, you know, the ACA subsidies are going to expire. So you’ll pay more for your health care next year. $200 if you’re under 40, up to $920 if you’re over 60. I think this will happen starting tonight.

As we get closer to the end of this year, that’s what the conversation will be like, but we’ll talk about it as there’s no consensus on moving forward and Democrats have put forward their views and Republicans have, you know, assured that there will be votes and we’ll have that conversation, but I don’t think we’ll shut it down. So my chance is 25%. I think you should destroy this. I don’t think we will shut down our system as we enter February.
