CPI(M) rebel enters fray as Independent in Payyanur

In a direct challenge to the Left Democratic Front, CPI(M) rebel and former Black North branch secretary C. Vaishak filed his nomination as an Independent candidate in Ward 36 of Payyanur municipality on Thursday.
Mr Vaishak, a former DYFI district vice president, quit the party, alleging negligence by local leaders during protracted factional tensions in the Kara region. The ward, which was earlier held by the CPI(M), was allotted to the Congress(S) this time. P. Jayan is the LDF candidate.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) Kannur district committee expelled Mr. Vaishak for his anti-organization activities.
