England progressed to the T20 World Cup semi-finals with a match to spare after comfortably beating the West Indies by 38 runs at Lord’s.
Amid sweltering conditions in London, England posted an impressive score of 186-7, with Danni Wyatt-Hodge scoring 65 and Heather Knight scoring 43.
It was the highest score in a women’s T20 at Lord’s and England eliminated any chance of chasing the Windies.
Windies skipper Hayley Matthews was aggrieved to be overlooked in the fourth over and England’s stand-in skipper Charlie Dean had Deandra Dottin caught well off long-on by Alice Capsey in the end of the sixth over.
After that, and with the game long decided, England dropped six chances in the West Indies’ back half, five of them challenging, somewhat tarnishing their books. This meant the West Indies limped to 148-5.
Still, England’s place in the last four is assured ahead of their final group match against New Zealand on Saturday. They are also on a six-game winning streak.
It is not yet clear who England will play, or whether they will play in Tuesday’s first semi-final or Thursday’s second semi-final, but South Africa or India currently look most likely.
