Crispin Blunt: Former Tory MP charged with possession of class A drugs

Former Conservative MP Crispin Blunt has been charged with four drug offenses, prosecutors said.
The 65-year-old former justice secretary, who represented Reigate for more than 25 years, is charged with one count of possession of class A drugs and three counts of possession of class B drugs.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the charges were brought after police searched his home in Horley as part of a separate investigation.
He is expected to appear in court later this month.
Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS Special Crime Section, said: “We have decided to charge Crispin Blunt, 65, with four drug offenses, one count of possession of a Class A controlled drug and three counts of possession of a Class B controlled drug.
“The charges came after police attended Mr Blunt’s home address in Horley on 25 October 2023 regarding a separate matter.
“Our prosecutors worked to determine that there was sufficient evidence to bring this case to trial and that it was in the public interest to pursue criminal prosecution.
“We worked closely with Surrey Police in carrying out their investigations.
“We remind all concerned that the criminal case against this defendant is active and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.
“It is vital that there is no reporting, commenting or sharing of information online that could undermine these operations in any way.”
Mr Blunt will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on March 25.
The class A drug is alleged to be methamphetamine, while the class B drug is GBL, cannabis and amphetamine.
Mr Blunt served as Conservative MP for Reigate from 1997 until his arrest in October 2023. He removed the Conservative Party whip and remained seated as an independent MP, not standing for re-election in 2024.
Between 2010 and 2012, Blunt served as parliamentary undersecretary for prisons and probation at the Ministry of Justice during the reign of then-Prime Minister David Cameron. He also chaired the House of Commons Select Committee on Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2017.
