Former Sen. Kyrsten Sinema says affair with married man happened outside of NC, wants case dismissed

Former U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona is asking a federal judge to dismiss a Moore County woman’s lawsuit against her for allegedly causing the dissolution of her marriage through extramarital sex.
Channel 9 reported the case in January. The lawsuit alleges that Sinema had a romantic relationship with the plaintiff’s wife while she was married.

Sinema admits in court documents that she and the ex-husband of the woman who sued her “began a romantic relationship in May 2024.” However, Sinema says the incident took place outside NC and therefore should be dismissed.
The man Sinema was with was a member of Sinema’s security team at the time and was married and living in Moore County with his wife.
But because the relationship took place outside the state of North Carolina, Sinema claims she cannot be sued under NC’s alienation of affection law. North Carolina is one of the few states where spouses can sue a spouse’s lover for alienation of affection.
“During the relevant period, Mr. [Redacted] He would travel outside of North Carolina for at least three different jobs every few days each month. Accused [Sinema] in the lawsuit, documenting every phone call and email communication he had with her; None of this occurred while I was in North Carolina,” the lawsuit reads.
Sinema also claims to have only been to Charlotte, North Carolina, once for a campaign-related event. As of May 2024, Sinema said in North Carolina that her relationship with the security detail member was never “physically intimate.”
Sinema also alleges that the plaintiff and her husband, while separated in October 2024, “went to Miami on October 19 to see a Taylor Swift concert as the Defendant’s guest” with their three children. However, Sinema says the two stayed in different rooms. Just a few weeks later, husband and wife separated and the husband moved to a new apartment.
Sinema’s motion to dismiss was filed on March 12 and will need to be reviewed by a judge before any decision is made.
