Critical Resources launches solid-state battery evaluation

Tim Wither, managing director of Critical Resources, spoke with Proactive about the company’s structured solid-state lithium-ion battery evaluation program in the United States, which takes a step toward laboratory-based validation of next-generation battery materials beyond the early-stage option. Wither said the company has initiated a “structured path evaluation pathway” through CEPS, focusing on two parallel projects. The first of these focuses on the amorphous solid-state electrolyte, described as the “heart of batteries”, aiming to replace the liquid electrolytes associated with fire risks in traditional lithium-ion batteries. The second project involves dry deposition supersonic deposition technology, effectively 3D printing cathode material in a solvent-free process designed to reduce manufacturing steps.
