Two-fifths of people using weight loss jabs are going into debt, survey finds

Nearly two-fifths of people who use special weight-loss injections say the cost has put them in debt, according to a survey.
The average amount owed by 39 per cent of Reds was £1,616, while some turned to credit cards and overdrafts to help cover the cost.
Savings are also being raided; 49 per cent of people admit to using theirs to pay for injections, and 17 per cent admit to putting money earmarked for emergencies.
Nearly one in ten (8 per cent) said they would miss a scheduled payment for a jab, while 6 per cent said they had already missed or delayed a jab.
The 1,040 people surveyed said they spent an average of £210 a month on jabs.
Nearly a fifth (21%) said they would have to stop using injections if their costs increased.

Thinkmoney consumer expert Vix Leyton said: ‘For people who spend years trying every diet and program, the fear of gaining weight again is a real specter.’
He added: ‘If people are forced to stop because they can no longer afford it, there can be physical and emotional consequences.
‘This makes it even more important for anyone starting these vaccinations to think about whether they can afford the journey, and not just for the first few months.’
