Cyberabad police, GHMC draft joint roadmap to tackle congestion, safety and pending roadworks

Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Gajarao Bhupal and GHMC District Commissioner Bhorkhade Hemant Sahadeorao in a meeting on Thursday.

A multi-agency strategy to address rising traffic congestion, infrastructure delays and pedestrian safety in Cyberabad took center stage on Thursday, with Cyberabad police and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials jointly identifying priority intersections, major mobility challenges and urgent works that need to be expedited in the IT corridor and surrounding areas.

The high-level coordination meeting was jointly chaired by Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Gajarao Bhupal and GHMC District Commissioner Bhorkhade Hemant Sahadeorao and other senior civil officials. The session was attended by project engineers and traffic heads from Madhapur, Medchal and Balanagar divisions, along with representatives from GHMC’s Serilingampally and Charminar districts.

High on the agenda were solutions to ease congestion, complete stalled infrastructure works and improve pedestrian movement through underpasses, overpasses, pedestrian bridges and overpasses. Officials also pointed out waterlogging during rains, the need for dedicated two-wheeler shuttles and the relocation of bus stops to less obstructive locations in busy areas.

Special focus was placed on the IT corridor and the upcoming KNR project near IIIT junction, where alternative traffic routes were proposed to avoid congestion during construction. Senior civil servants stressed that pending drainage systems and road repairs should be completed without delay to avoid seasonal bottlenecks and provide convenience to the public.

Other recommendations included widening roads, removing unnecessary dividers, freeing up left turn lanes, strengthening lane markings and installing new traffic signals where necessary. Officials agreed that spot inspections and prioritization of choke points under GHMC limits were necessary for effective implementation.

The need for regular interdepartmental follow-up meetings to ensure accountability, timely progress and unified traffic management plans across regions was strongly emphasized.

Senior traffic officials including DCPs, ADCPs and ACPs from Madhapur, Medchal and Balanagar were present during the discussions. The meeting ended with consensus that coordinated planning and rapid implementation will be critical to improving mobility and building safer and more efficient roads in Siberabad.
